St Mary Magdalene Church Gorleston are looking for a Deputy Community Lead to assist the Community Lead in the oversight of their wide-ranging community ministry.

We are the parish church for the Magdalen estate in Gorleston. According to the Church Urban Fund’s multiple indices of deprivation, it ranks as the sixth most deprived parish in the Diocese of Norwich. At the heart of our vision is God’s mandate to his people to seek the peace and prosperity of the community in which he has placed us (c.f. Jeremiah 29:7).  This is a new strategic post that will help to strengthen the leadership of the community work into the future.

Job Title: Deputy Community Lead

Reports to: Person designated by the Parochial Church Council

Type of Contact: 1 year fixed term (with possible extension). [subject to completion of a 6 week probationary period]

Place of Work: St Mary Magdalene Church (StMM), Magdalen Square, Gorleston NR31 7BZ

Hours: 22 hrs per week (can be negotiated)

Pay: FTE 27,864 per annum, pro rata (based upon 37.5hrs full time)

Holiday: 25 days (pro rata) plus bank holidays.  Option of unpaid leave, by negotiation.

Responsible for supporting the Community Lead in:

  • Strategic oversight of the wide-ranging community ministry

  • Setting Christian ethos and culture

  • Fundraising and Donor relations

  • Line Management

  • Partnerships

  • Organisational growth, development and change

  • Human Resources

  • Safeguarding oversight

  • Budgets and Operations

  • Training and Development

Qualities required:

  • Experience of leading teams and enabling others, 

  • setting interpersonal boundaries commitment to the church, 

  • working with vulnerable adults and those with additional needs, 

  • excellent interprersonal skills, 

  • commitment to Christ and his church.
